The Grand Staircase

The grand staircase is a fitting representation of mankind's upward progression back into the presence of God.

This staircase was crafted by hand in the late 1800's. The woodwork is remarkable considering the period tools used.

The staircase leads to the next floor of the temple, which includes the Telestial Room, the Terrestrial Room, some Sealing Rooms, the Celestial Room, and the Holy of Holies.

Upon the death of President Wilford Woodruff, Senior Apostle Lorenzo Snow was in the temple praying for guidance. Jesus appeared to Elder Snow at this very staircase and told Snow he was to be the next prophet.

President Snow shared this experience with his granddaughter years later when she visited him in the temple one evening.

“Now Allie, I want you to remember that this is the testimony of your grandfather, that he told you with his own lips that he actually saw the Savior, here in the temple, and talked with him face to face.”
